  • What is the best way to reach Lucca?

A nice walk! but if you don't have time you can choose to turn off Google maps and arrive:

  1. By Car : Lucca is located on the motorway line that connects Florence with Pisa and the Versilia coast, called A11 Firenze - Mare; whether you come from the north or the south, therefore, you need to take the A11 and exit at Lucca east or west. Lucca's two motorway exits are both located approximately 1 km from the city centre. The historic center of Lucca is mostly closed to traffic, so once you arrive in the city, we recommend parking your car outside the walls.

  2. ByTrain : Lucca station is located in Piazza Ricasoli, a 5-minute walk from the historic center. Look for the railway line that connects Florence with Viareggio and Florence (or Pistoia, sometimes) with Pisa. If we have convinced you, visit the Trenitalia website for more information.

  3. By Plane : From Pisa airport it is necessary to take the train to Pisa Centrale and once you arrive here, take another one to Lucca. From Florence airport, however, it is necessary to get to the Santa Maria Novella station, from which it is then possible to take a train or bus (in the immediate vicinity) to Lucca; from the airport, buses leave for Florence station every 30 minutes.

  4. By Bus : The bus station is located in Piazzale Verdi, inside the walls. Among the major locations from which you can reach Lucca by bus are Florence, Pisa and Viareggio. For information, visit the CTT Nord Toscana Trasporti website here
