"Innovation and Paper: The Creative Journey of Paola Bazz"
I am a Paper Artist specializing in 3D collages made from paper recovered from magazines, catalogs, books, and wallpaper samples. Since 2022, I have returned to live in Padua after spending many years abroad.
Creativity has always been at the center of my life since I was a child. It allows me to travel with my mind far into the past and the future, while also constantly bringing me back to the present, demanding my focus in the search for detail and control of manual activity. For me, it is a form of active meditation where technological innovation, digital tools, research, and experimentation blend with ancient techniques like Origami and Kirigami, along with artisanal practices passed down through generations.
Thanks to new technologies, the distinction between art, design, and craftsmanship is increasingly blurring, pushing art to interact and create contaminations still to be explored. This challenge comes with other equally interesting ones, such as managing the relationship with social media without compromising artistic language for "Instagrammability," reflecting on the environmental emergency with an "eco" approach in terms of production and invention, and promoting gender equality in the art world.
Paper is a democratic material, present in every home and accessible to everyone. It was an endless source of play during my childhood, offering infinite possibilities for use. As an adult, paper regained a central role in my life when I decided to reuse it as a raw material for my creations. This new approach was enriched by my experiences and knowledge accumulated over time. In particular, my family taught me the importance of not throwing anything away, recycling, and giving new life to fabrics, objects, and materials, combining the joy of creation with manual skill. My studies at the University of Architecture in Venice taught me a work method and design capability that allow me to generate innovative ideas and creative solutions.
My future projects are numerous: first and foremost, I wish to continue experimenting and perfecting the Kirigami technique, an art that combines cutting and folding paper to create intricate sculptures. I also have many other ideas that I want to develop, currently still in their embryonic stage. My methodologies arise from the fusion of different worlds and the integration of traditional techniques with modern technologies. I draw inspiration from various sources, ranging from the advertising world to nature.
Art is a child of our time, and I draw inspiration from what surrounds me. There are no limits: I follow my curiosity and instinct, always seeking new paths and experimenting, accepting the related risks such as making mistakes or ending up in dead ends. I would recommend this attitude to anyone approaching art. It is essential to keep an open mind, be willing to experiment, and learn from your mistakes. Art is a continuous journey, a dialogue with the world and with oneself, and I invite young artists to embark on this path with courage and passion.
