MARGARETA ANNA LEUTHARDT-SCHWAGER

The Fascination - Paper

Margareta Anna Leuthardt-Schwager, lives and works in the Basel region (Switzerland).

In the course of her artistic work, she has increasingly turned to the medium of paper in all forms. She is very interested in the millennia-old tradition of Asian papers and their production and is increasingly incorporating her experience into her artistic work.

As a member of IAPMA, (The International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists) she continues to expand the field of paper production and processing.

The fascination of the feel of the different papers in the hand is a sensual experience and leaves room to develop artistic projects. Paper can be designed into three-dimensional sculptures and is the support for a sketch, a watercolor or a painting, combined with mixed media. This creates a wealth of art.

In the rapidly developing era of digital art and media, paper has taken on a new meaning. It stands for tradition, for the processing of natural materials and the production as a multiple medium not only for art, the written word also makes you pause.

Paper still has great importance here and now in this century. Old papers are held in high esteem. It is precisely this meaning that needs to be taken into account again in contemporary art. Paper doesn't forgive easily. A canvas can easily be painted over. The paper, on the other hand, as a carrier of art, works impressively to give the work an expression.

It is desirable for every child and every art student to start with just a piece of paper and a graphite pencil and to be able to see how many possibilities grow from it.

The artist Margareta Anna Leuthardt-Schwager, has now begun intensive preparation for several art projects for the coming year 2025, in which she will show large-format works on paper, standing leporellos, paper sculptures and artist books in exhibitions at home and abroad.
