Step by Step in Art
My story is one of continuous evolution...
I graduated as a jewelry designer and worked with internationally recognized companies. Creativity has never been lacking, even when the markets of the companies I collaborated with posed a continuous challenge for the collections I designed.
I am Italian, raised in the city of Vicenza, a world center for goldsmithing and ceramic craftsmanship. When I moved to Spain, I finally broke through boundaries in the field of jewelry making and realized a long-held dream, creating jewelry where gold and ceramics could merge together.
My first exhibition came with a collection of pendants, and from there, a series of events that became and still are important showcases for my work: fashion shows, international exhibitions, art biennials like those in Florence and then Lucca, competitions, and awards. It all stemmed from the need to create art and give space to creativity without limits on techniques, shapes, volumes, design, costs, or markets. Nature is my great inspiration, with its colors, textures, shapes, and play of light, but technique has been a continuous search and experimentation to understand the limits and possibilities of each material worked.
With paper, a passion was born that initially was by chance but later grew over time. Creating and discovering its multifunctionality is always a surprise. I started with 3D forms simulating stones, using pigments that created the colors of minerals. The possibilities in creating textures and natural effects are endless.
Thanks to the use of paper and numerous recycled materials, I am part of the group of designers featured in the sustainable fashion catalog of the province of Gipuzkoa (Basque Country, Spain), having the opportunity to participate in numerous events and convey to young people (and not so young) how many opportunities there are not only in the world of fashion but also in plastic and contemporary art.
While paper inspires me with ideas, depending on its weight, color, or texture... the technique has been a continuous evolution. Experimentation and countless trials to create different procedures to make jewelry, which should not only be collectible objects like art but also functional so they can be worn.
Teaching young people the techniques learned over time and conveying an alternative design using various materials, especially paper, is a great commitment but also a passion. It is about opening the minds and possibilities for those young people preparing for the future, not only in new technologies but also in craftsmanship and art.
Developing a piece of jewelry from an abstract idea, shaping it, challenging the materials, and discovering new techniques is priceless. I am very fortunate to be able to share what I know and have developed gradually over time, often surprising myself with the results and what the young people manage to create.
Creating art in all its facets is a reflection of creativity and the potential to improve what has already been discovered or challenge materiality...
"Here and Now" represented another step to go beyond my art. The proposal, realized with a necklace, a pendant, and a ring, was inspired by puzzle elements, where each day there's the possibility to disassemble and reassemble the jewelry according to the moment, the inspiration, that is, the here and now.
I used sheets of paper made from vegetable fibers, which, due to their resistance and thickness, can be cut to create pieces that fit together, forming ever-changing shapes. White prevails as the main color, with a touch of gold to create a play of light and shadow, and where 3D harmonizes with the created effect.
A theme inspired by ingenuity, adaptability, and resilience. These are crucial characteristics in this intense historical moment, where changes happen at an accelerated pace, and the ability to adapt to the moment is indispensable. The future unfolds step by step. Art gives me the opportunity for expression, outside the box, while remaining faithful to my goldsmithing knowledge and the desire to create jewelry that is useful, unique, and recognizable for the style developed over the years.
The idea of dedicating myself to the art world, blending functionality and creativity, is like breaking barriers and merging two worlds that are still distant in concept. Art is still seen as something unattainable for many and therefore selective. My view aspires to an idea of beauty and exclusivity that should not be prohibitive and precluded.
