Liezette Gerrits is an independent visual artist specialized in light-shadow paper objects. She makes her objects using white paper, adhesive tape and light. Her work process stems from a fascination with the use of light by artists like Vermeer and Rembrandt. She mastered working from dark to light by developing a new technical method. By snipping, tearing and cutting sheets of paper, she makes a translucent image. She creates the desired play of shadows by bending and folding the remaining forms. The sheet of white paper at the front serves as a projection screen, displaying the image of light and shadow. Because there’s a space between the light source and the paper artwork, she gives an insight into how she made it. Her work fits seamlessly with the theme "white paper" because she only uses white and off-white paper to create the shadows in her light-shadow paper objects.
