Joanna Buchowska was born in Oleśnica, Poland. She first studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Opole and then art education in Czestochowa. In 1991, she moved to Berlin, where she still works and lives, to attend the Institute of New Media L4.

The artist uses a large archive of magazines for her work and her combination of glue and torn paper serve as a foundation for her sketches and as an inspiration to find images and arrangements.
