The German artist from Titisee-Neustadt holds degrees in Nutrition Science and in Art History. In 1986, he founded ‘Pfanze-faser-papier’, an art studio for the production of hand-made paper using experimental processes and pulp from both cultivated and wild plants. In 1995, Frerick opened a second studio, ‘La font du ciel’, in Southern France, which focuses on teaching Asian experimental paper production techniques. In 2005, after having moved to the South of France, he founded ‘La font du ciel—luminaries’, that specializes in the production of lamps and light sculptures, made with plant-based parchment, an innovative and environmentally sustainable material. In 2018, Helmut Frerick moved back to Germany and founded the ‘Lichtstücke’ studio.
