Lucca Biennale Cartasia

FILTER BY SECTION:

Performing is one of the most engaging and powerful means of expression that any artist can use. Witnessing how paper is used in this field it truly a unique experience. Performers approach paper in completely different ways: for some it is a ritual and a dress; for others, paper is a means to wipe out their fears, a screen or a stage. Paper can be surface on which to leave a mark with one’s body or with everyday objects. The performance section extends across the indoor section (the call for entries is the same) and the events one.

PERFORMANCE SECTION THEME -XI EDTION 2022: “THE WHITE PAGE”

What does a white page represent?
Endless possibilities. A different future, a dream that can come true, an ambition, a different perspective, an alternative to daily routine. A blank page gives us the feeling of being able to sketch out a new, different, better world.
At the same time, a white piece of paper can represent the anxiety of it all, the negative possibilities, the unexpected implications and a leap in the dark. An inability to act.

It is a bridge between the past and the future, it is an opportunity for free writing or the anguish of the unknown, it is the courage of making a choice or the loss of one’s comfort zone.

GIACOMO PECCHIA

In Lucca Biennale Cartasia, paper and performing arts are closely linked, with the former being the absolute protagonist of any artistic representation.

The Performance section is quite new but it has been met with great enthusiasm. We are continuously on the lookout for new performers and aim to expand the program each edition.
