GUEST COUNTRY 2022: GERMANY
Germany will be the guest country of the 11th edition of the Lucca Biennale Cartasia. This means the active participation of a country that has always been attentive to sustainability, whose environmental awareness and environmental movements have a long tradition behind them. The commitment to the environment and sustainability has not yet reached sufficient goals anywhere in the world and this collaboration aims to raise awareness, as well as exchange points of view and create new ideas.

Paper has been used in every era; it has created universes of meaning and passed on culture; it has been a means for financial transactions and to set down contracts, rules, laws and treaties. Paper has been used to protect food, shelter mouths, cover bodies. Moreover, to create Art. This immense heritage is declined differently throughout the world: each nation, every region has its own paper tradition and individual technique, mirroring its unique evolution of style and development of the expertise and of the use of paper. The aim of Lucca Biennale Cartasia is to showcase this variety by inviting a guest country at each edition to highlight the versatility, tradition and creativity of paper.
