Lucca Biennale Cartasia

Paper architecture and design is growing in leaps and bounds. That is why Lucca Biennale Cartasia has decided to create a dedicated section and is committed to changing the way paper and cardboard are perceived: from a transient material, to an architectural and a structural element.

“Papers and Projects” was born in collaboration with the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators of the Province of Lucca, from the interest in using “alternative materials” with the aim of reducing the overall environmental impact of buildings, to the advantage of resource protection and sustainable management of construction processes. Sustainability and innovation are therefore the pivots that bind architecture and design to paper and cardboard.

Lucca Biennale Cartasia gives a voice to all those who select paper and cardboard as an artistic medium, elevating it and who achieve remarkably expressive results of great technical and experimental quality. The Architecture & Design Section is a welcomed challenge. Although some Archi-stars have already tried their hand at cardboard creations, we are still just starting to discover and use paper in construction. Our mission is to foster the research and development of resistant forms of cardboard while conveying a message of environmental responsibility and promoting environmentally sustainable architectural choices and behaviors.
