Paper & Sustainability

Giovanna Bittante

My name is Giovanna Bittante and I am a jewelry designer. I studied in Italy and now live in Spain, where I conjure and give shape to my ideas.

To create jewelry, I started experimenting and combining everyday materials with the more “noble” goldsmithing ones already back in 2006. I began using paper almost by chance, painting it and working its surface to give it a “stone effect”. Thanks to this original combination, the doors to exhibits and fashion shows opened up wide!

Paper has captured me to such an extent that, for many years now, I have been creating jewels with different types of paper from a multitude of countries. Each piece is unique and tells a story full of emotions that are not just visual ones: a sort of wearable object which connects art and feelings. Thanks to this continuous evolution, my creations are now featured in the Spanish Basque Country GK Green Fashion catalog together with other sustainable fashion designers.

Each one of us is focussed on zeroing-in more and more on sustainability, eco-design and circular economy through our creations. The concept of contemporary jewelry is aimed at using alternative materials to gold, silver or natural stones. Thus, paper becomes the undeniable protagonist of unique and exclusive jewels.
